Aspen Pharmacare Australia is a subsidiary of Aspen Pharmacare Holdings Limited, the largest listed pharmaceutical company in South Africa. Aspen commenced operations in Australia in May 2001 and also has a thriving export business. Today, the company is one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in Australia, and has one of the most comprehensive portfolios of medicines in the country, covering most disease states. We have 3 sales divisions: Consumer, Branded Prescription, and Generics.
Aspen Australia is an entrepreneurial driven company which not only markets and distributes products owned by the Aspen Group, but also licenses products from other companies. Many of its products are niche products in niche markets - in some instances providing the market with drugs in specialist areas that are overlooked by the multinational pharmaceutical industry, and promoting many established products from a variety of fields.
Many older products are still very effective, with individual modes of action that aren't matched by newer products. They're also good value for the consumer and, in the case of subsidised medicines, the government. Yet many such successful brands are overlooked by larger pharmaceutical companies - perhaps because they are off-patent, not financially viable or don't match a company's chosen specialist therapeutic profile. An important part of Aspen's strategy is simply to remind doctors and consumers of the power of these older, tried and trusted products.
Aspen's product portfolio includes some of the most prescribed brands in Australia, and Aspen Pharmacare is ranked number one in the nation in terms of prescriptions written for products marketed by Aspen (source: IMS). Products include Ceclor, Keflex, Redipred, Tazac, Panafcort, Panafcortelone, Tritace, Cardizem, Andrews* Tums*, Gastro-stop, Murine®, Coloxyl®, Ural®, Phisohex* and Anagraine.
